Disappearance day of Sri Baladeva Vidyabhusan Prabhu

In our sampradaya, there was a saintly person named Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu. He was very lean and thin, much like myself. In Jaipur, there is a prominent deity of Govinda Dev. Although many deities are present in Jaipur, Govinda Dev is the most significant. The King of Jaipur brought the Govinda Dev deity and installed it in such a way that he could see Govinda Dev and take darshan every time he opened his windows.

At that time, several prominent Ramanuja sampradaya scholars stated, “King, Lord Rama appeared in Treta Yuga and Krishna appeared in Dwapar Yuga. Therefore, we must first offer bhog to Rama and Sita, not Govinda Dev. Furthermore, Radhika Devi is not the married wife of Krishna, like Sita Devi, so we must separate Her from Him.”

The King was confused about what to do. He sent a messenger to Vrindavan and explained the situation to Vishwanath Chakravarty Thakur. Vishwanath Chakravarty Thakur, being of advanced age, replied, “I am too old and cannot travel. Moreover, I have taken kshetra sannyas, which means I have vowed to remain in one place, such as Navadwip Dham, Dwarka Dham, or Jagannath Dham, and never move from there.”

He then sent Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu and another person. When they arrived, the King was astonished. He thought, “There are many well-built pandit scholars with large turbans, and he sent a lean and thin boy. What will he do? How can he face them?”

When the seminar began, everyone told Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu, “Rama appeared in Treta Yuga and Krishna appeared in Dwapar Yuga. Therefore, offerings should first be made to Rama and Sita, not Radha Krishna, and not Govinda Dev.”

Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu listened and then explained, “There are four Yugas and their Mahamantras. In Satya Yuga, the mantra is:

***narayana para veda

narayana paraksara

narayana para muktir

narayana-para gatih***

This means everything is for Narayana, which was prominent in Satya Yuga.

In Treta Yuga, the mantra is:

***rama narayanananta

mukunda madhusudana

krsna kesava kamsare

hare vaikuntha vamana***

And in Dwapar Yuga, it is:

***hare murare madhu-kaitabhare

gopala govinda mukunda saure

yajnesa narayana krsna visnos

nirasrayam mam jagadisa raksa***

Finally, in Kali Yuga, it is:

***hare krsna hare krsna

krsna krsna hare hare

hare rama hare rama

rama rama hare hare***

Baladeva Vidyabhushan continued, “Listen, in Treta Yuga, the names Mukunda, Madhusudan, and Keshav, all direct names of Krishna are present. So how can you say that Krishna came later Furthermore, in Dwapar Yuga, the name of Lord Rama is not even there; all are Krishna’s names.”

In this way, everyone was defeated by Srila Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu.

Another point of debate was that Srimati Radhika was not married to Krishna, and therefore, it was argued, she was not permitted to stay with him.

Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu addressed them, saying, “Marriage requires a Brahmin to perform the fire sacrifice and other rituals. Who could be a greater Brahmin than Brahmaji, the four-headed Brahma? He is the greatest Brahmin in all planetary systems. He arranged the wedding ceremony of Sri Sri Radha Krishna in Bhandir Van.” He provided evidence from the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, and they were utterly defeated.

After being completely defeated, they began to question, “Where is your Sampradaya Bhasya? Your commentary on the Vedanta Sutra?”

Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu replied, “Yes, there is Anubhasya, the extensive commentary that Sri Madhvacharya created.”

Everyone disagreed, stating, “That will not suffice. You must present your own Gaudiya Bhasya.”

Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu then explained, “Yes! Gaudiya is one of the streams of the Madhvacharya Sampradaya. For example, you are all from the Ramanuja Sampradaya, but it has split into two branches: Ramanandi and Ramaneta. The worshipable deity of the Ramanuja Sampradaya is Lakshmi Narayana. Then it split into two—one serving Sita Rama and the other serving Lakshmi Narayana. In the same way, our Gaudiya Sampradaya is connected.”

| Sampradāya | Key Figures in Lineage |

| — | — |

| Brahma | Brahma, Narada, Madhva, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, The Six Goswamis, Srila Bhakti Vinod Thakur, Srila Gaur Kishore Das Babaji Maharaj, Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada |

| Rudra | Shiva Thakur, Vishnu Swami |

| Kumāra | Sanaka, Nimbarka |

But they were not listening. Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu requested two years to write a commentary on the Vedanta Sutra. However, he was not granted that much time. He then asked for six months, but they again refused, understanding that Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu was so intelligent and learned that he could accomplish it in six months.

Then, he requested three months, then one month, and finally was allowed only seven days. It was impossible to write a commentary on the Vedanta Sutra in seven days. Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu then went to the temple of Govinda Dev and prayed, “Oh Govinda Dev! What do you desire? I will remain here until my last breath, and I will neither eat nor drink anything. Do you wish to be with your consort Srimati Radhika or not?”

Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu started to feel sleepy. Then Govinda Dev appeared in his dream and said, “You should begin, and it must happen!”

“No! I will not accept this. You must dictate it from your own lips! Only then will I write.”

So, in one night, Govinda Dev narrated, and Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu wrote the Gaudiya Bhasya. The next day, he presented it to everyone. All were astonished.

There are many commentaries on the Vedanta Sutra, but the Gaudiya Bhasya is so profound. After this, two more commentaries, even more intricate, were written by Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu.

For this reason, Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan Prabhu is known as the protector of the Sri Gaudiya Sampradaya. Otherwise, Krishna would have been separated from Srimati Radhika, and the prominence of Krishna, along with many other issues, would have been diminished.

This pastime took place in a place called Golta Dadhi, which is very close to Jaipur, Rajasthan. The place still exists. So, today is his disappearance day. Now, I am concluding here.
