Appearance of Vamandev, Refutation of Mayavad Philosophy and Established Gaudiya Siddhanta

Today is the Appearance Day of Sri Vamandeva. The meaning of Avirbhav. Vasudeva, Vasudeva, Vasudam. Gurudev (Srila Madhava Maharaj) is again talking about ….. rupenam – . “Vishesh” means special. Especially in samak form, those who come, literally in front of us, they appear – that is known as Appearance Day. Ordinarily, Avirbhav is for Bhagavan or His devotees, not for ordinary humans. Madhava Maharaj is speaking about Jiva Goswami. When Jiva Goswami refuted the conception of Vallabh Bhatt and defeated him, Vallabh Bhatt came to Rupa Goswami and said, “Oh, who is this boy? He’s very good.” So Rupa Goswami understood he (Jiva Goswami) did something wrong. Rupa Goswami is not an ordinary person. And when Vallabh Bhatt said, “Oh such a great pandit.” “Dhurandra” means one who knows all scriptural conceptions. Prathista (fame), respect, it is impure, like the defecation of a pig.

Maharaj said about Madhava Mahotsava grantha. What is the meaning of Madhava Mahotsava? Whose abhishek? Madhavi. Who is doing? Madhava is doing. “Abhishek” means to bathe. “Madhav” means Krsna’s Madhavi Radharani. When Madhava is doing abhishek of Madhavi, Brahma’s wife Savitri gave padma mala (garland of lotus) for Radharani because all the Lakshmis – they all have a lotus in their hand. Radharani’s lotus flower is different colour, Krsna’s lotus flower is different colour – that is mentioned in scriptures. Radharani was even given golden Singhasan(throne) to sit on. Kubera’s wife gave jewellery to Radharani. Gauri gave umbrella . Agni’s wife (Pavan’s wife) “Agni” means fire. Pavan’s wife, they gave camara, having white hair fan. Clothes were given to Radharani. Dhrumi gave a mirror; and it is not a normal mirror; it is made of mani( gems). And how? All of these were given through Nandimukh , the mani gem, was given to Nandi gopi and then she givesto Radharani.

One demigoddess is in sky guarding by permission of Paurnamasi Gopi so that there will be no problem in the abhishek. Tomorrow I will ask everyone regarding 10 offenses and also 10 pramanas (10 evidences). Four Sandharbha – Tattva Sandharbha, Bhagavat sandharbha, Paramatma Sandharbha, Krsna Sandharbha – these are 4 sambhandha tattva mula – the knowledge in them is releated to sambandha . Bhakti Sandharbha, Abhidheya Tattva, Priti Sandharbha, Prayojana Tattva. You need to know this Pramad and you need to know what is Pramana. What is Pramana ? Shabda Pramana is the best pramana – why? Other pramans why not? Because it will be vipralipsa and karanapatava. I have told about all the 4 defects, 10 pramans. Anytime I can ask anyone from tomorrow morning.

Now let me speak about Bhakti Sandharbha, one by one. Krsna is speaking Himself. Jiva Goswamipad said in Bhakti Sandharbha. There are 2 sets of sorrows if my lila-katha is spoken without tattva or if tattva is spoken without lila-katha. Jiva Goswami is showing. Bhakti Sandharbha 68. This is the 68th point in Bhakti Sandharbha.

Why do people have cows? To get the milk. If the cow is impotent, cannot have a calf/baby, she will not give milk. So there are 2 problems. What is “baj” in English? Barren or Impotent. I don’t know for animals if barren is related to impotent but they say “barren”. Nurturing such a barren cow, taking care of a barren cow, there are 2 problems, 2 sorrows. First of all, you have to invest money in taking care of the barren cow and second, you will not get milk – so 2 problems. The very reason for which you want to raise the cow, which is not getting fulfilled. If someone’s wife is unchaste, not faithful, and she is with some other man, involved with another man, having an affair with another man, then she will do all her household chores very beautifully. Mahaprabhu is saying to Sanatana Goswami how to work. One whose heart is with some other man, what will that woman do? She will do all her household chores very beautifully that her husband cannot doubt her. But all the time, she is thinking of some other man. So there are 2 sorrows for such a woman. First of all, she will not love you – she will not help you in gratifying your senses and secondly, you will have to nurture her, take care of her. If your body is dependent on somebody else, you cannot do something on your own.

What is the sorrow of raising a son who does not obey you? There are 2 sorrows. First of all, that son will not give you oblations after you die and you will go to hell. There is a hell named “Put”. One who liberates you from that hell by giving oblations after you die, henceforth that son is called “Putra” in Hindi because he liberates you from the hell named “Put”. So first of all, if you raise that son who d oes not give you oblations, you have to invest money and secondly, you will have to go to hell – there are 2 sorrows. So you should not speak katha without tattva and without lila. There should be a balance of lila-katha and tattva-katha – pastimes and tattva, principles, . Any Mathvasi, if they are doing bhajan, they don’t need to care about, “Oh I don’t have a son, how will I be liberated?” The holy name will liberate them, they don’t need, they will never go to hell.

We are coming to Vaman Dvadasi. Ordinarily, we need to fast of Vishnu Tattva. But on Radhastami, no fasting. Only for Vishnu Tattva like Janmashtami, Nityananda Trayodasi, Baladev Purnima, Advaita Saptami, Gaura purnima. But Vaman Dvadasi and Varaha Dvadasi – no fasting because there is Ekadasi. If it would have been Mahadvadasi, then we have to leave Ekadasi and have to do paran. Because Vaman Dvadasi and Varaha Dvadasi are not Mahadvadasi, hence we do paran, we break our fast. We pray to Vamandev, this is mentioned.

Worshipable for Gaudiyas is Radharani. Why don’t you fast for Her, this is his question. Gaudiyas’ aradhya is Gurudev also. Your particular Gurudev will be your worshipable, so why do you eat? Why don’t you fast? There is no fast for Shakti Tattva. Radharani is Shakti Tattva, not Vishnu Tattva, so no fasting.

Vrat and Upvas there are 2 things – fasting and vow, the difference. Taking vow, we will celebrate with grand festival. And on Upvas, on fasting, you will have to do penance of not eating, or eating preparations like on Ekadasi. So there is difference between Upvas (fasting) and Vrat (vow). You can ask later, I will tell later. Both are brothers – sons of the same father, different mothers.

There are 2 types of people. Their mental relations is same. What are they? Bhakta Bhagavan and also demons are against devotees. Like in the same family of Prahlad Maharaj, father is a demon, son is a devotee then demon then devotee. Although they are sons of Bhagavan, they are not devotees. Like son of Varahadev, Narakasur – he is a demon. This is due to bad association. Due to asat sanga, all the qualities go away, leave you. If sat sanga, Vaikuntha gati, if asat sanga, Naraka gati. If sat sanga, you are having good association, you will go to heaven and if you are having bad association, you will go to hell. Like demigods also, they won a war with demons. They presented with many gifts, dancing going on, singing going on, gifts are coming, Indra is sitting proud. At that time only, Brihaspati came. Indra is saying, “Why did he come? Why did Guruji come? He could have come some other time. All are so much happy right now. They are praising me so much.” When Brihaspati got to know about it, Brihaspatidev he went away from there. Like even some devotees when they see their Gurudev they keep on sitting . I saw one of my devotees in white, when I came, he rose and when I went, he sat. I did it onc and when I came, he rose, when I went in, he sat. I noticed, he saw I’m coming, he was sitting, he didn’t know and speak anything. When Shri Vana Maharaj came, he kept sitting. So Gurudev is trying to say that, “when he comes, he stands. But, when Shri Vana Maharaj comes, he keeps sitting”. As I told, my Guruvarg has given me the power of 8 eyes, like Vana Maharaj Ji, in my two eyes. If Krishna gets upset, Guru persuades Him. But if Guru gets upset, then there is no way. Gurudev will not be pleased with money, but with your character, your seva, he will see how humble you are, how loyal you are like Gupta ji, how loyal he is. You have to be simple-hearted, from inside as well as outside, same, That way. What else is there? By service, simplicity, and respecting Vaishnavas, not by money you can buy Gurudev. Jiva Goswami Prabhupada showed it and I’ll tell it. Sukracharya said, “Attack now!” Demigods were lost, they ran away. Now they were roaming here and there. if some son’s everything is lost, who will have more remorse, mother or father? If son loses everything, mother will be more sad. Mother went to the sun, “Do something for my kids”. He said, “Do this fasting, take this vow. Bhagvan will come as your son.” Mother replied, “Ok, I’ll do it.” Aditi mata did it on the saying of Kashyap Rishi, on command and guidance of Kashyap Rishi. So Vaman Dev came. His height was 52 fingers, that too of a baby’s hand, not from our hands, 52 fingers of a small baby’s hand, that was his height. Someone gave Him a slipper, someone a kamandalu, and someone an umbrella, and a pot and then he went to Bali Maharaj, for Madhukari, to take some daan, some charity, From far away, it seemed like an umbrella was coming walking towards Bali Maharaj. Bali Maharaj used to give lots of charity, he was a great person when it came to giving charity. Although Bhagvan came in a form of a small child. But how can Bhagvan hide His radiance? Bali became attracted and came to Bhagvan, he said, “Oh batuk…” Batuk means small baby boy. “Oh Batuk, what do you want?”.

He said, “I am a small Brahman kid. I need 3 steps of land measured from my own feet.”

Bali maharaj said, “Oh… You ask for half of my kingdom, I will give you.”

He said, “No king, I am a satisfied Brahman Boy. What will I do of your kingdom?”

Bali Maharaj said, “See, I am so long and tall, take the land from the measure of my feet.”

Vaman Dev replied, “No, I am Atmaram, all my desires are satisfied. My feet are ok. Then Bali Maharaj said, “the way you are small, your intelligence is also small. If I do your Chau Mau…”. What is meant by Chau Mau? Chau Mau means marriage.

So Vaman Dev said, “I am Brahman boy, I am Brahmchari, I don’t need Chau Mau, I don’t need marriage.” Then His guru Sukrachaya came. He said to Bali, “Oh, don’t give him charity, He is Vishnu!” In demons, Sukracharya is the potency of Bhagvan, this is Aishwarya yoga. Bali maharaj said, “If He is Vishnu, in some or the other way, by hook or crook, He will take anything from me, and if I give charity till the time, the constellations, the sun and moon and stars will stay, they will say “Bhagvan had to take charity from Bali. He had to come to Bali to take charity.”

At times, Bhagvan has to go to His devotees for taking some help. Bhagvan has to cross the Ganga. Bhagwan Ram, who can make you cross the material ocean, He cannot cross the Ganga, the small Ganges. And, he had to go to Kevat, the boatman. This is due to Bhakti, because the boatman is Bhakta (Devotee) and he did this service of taking Ram across from one bank of the Ganga to another bank. Sukracharya is thinking if he will take everything then how will my family live.

“May you have no wealth.” He gave that curse to Bali. Because he was a king, Bali Maharaj had everything of gold. So there was a utensil. Sukracharya entered that utensil in the form of a fly. He said, “I’ll not let the water come out, so they cannot take the vow.” Vaman Dev is laughing. He said, “You’re not smart, you’re idiot!” He said, “Bali…”, he is saying that to Sukracharya. He said to Bali, “Oh you have so many servants, they did not clean it properly.” He said, “There is dirt and no water is coming out, take a kusha grass and clean it.” So the water which came out was red. Why? Because when he went inside in the form of a Makshi (which means a fly)so his eyes was burst and blood came out, so the water became red.

Gurudev used to say if somebody wants to do Bhajan and if anyone tries to act as a hurdle in their path, be it their mother, father, husband, wife, or anyone, in another life, they will have to be born as blind people. At times you would see the daughter of the eye-specialist father is blind, this is due to this. So never obstruct someone’s bhajan. The way you will act, you’ll have to reap the same. Today we have the power, so we are acting like this. But the power will not remain forever. So, the eyes of Sukracharya were burst by Bali Maharaj while he was cleaning the Ganga Sagar.

In Vaikunth, he (Vamana) was in the form of Narayana. He came as Vamana and then got Trivikram form, means huge, universal form. When he came as a small baby, the daughter of Bali Maharaj said, “Oh, if you were my son, I would have breastfed him.” When he (Vamana) took the Trivikram form, the universal form, with His one step, he took all the 7 planets (Sapta Lok) and everyone was shocked.

Gurudev used to say that, “If you try to look at that form, your cap will fall down.” It was so huge. You could not see. Somebody said to Dheer Krishna Prabhu that, “If he will wear a cap, corona will not attack.” So he wears a cap all the time and never leaves his head open.

With another step, he (Vamana Dev) took the lower planetary system. While taking the third step, he said, “Bali, you were going to give me the land of three steps, now where should I keep my third step?” Those who chant the name of Krishna, they are very smart. Bali Maharaj asked Vamana Dev to put His holy step on his head and thus he was suppressed and he was sent to Sutal Lok, the third Lok. Vamana Bhagvan, he himself, is the guard over there. At the same time, the daughter of Bali Maharaj, when she saw this happening, she said, “I’ll mix poison in the milk which she wanted to breastfeed. So her desire was completed in the next life as Putana.”
